Terrier Cutlery Company Knives
Terrier was a premium brand made and distributed by Robeson between 1910 and 1916, just a six year period. However, it was during the time that Robeson was considered one of the two best knife manufacturers in America, and one of the best in the world. The only other American maker that compared was New York Knife Company in Walden, New York.
Really nice Terriers are difficult to find.
The two three digit groups of numbers in the Robeson six digit pattern numbers on Terrier Knives were reversed. Therefore a Robeson pattern number like 832/002 became 002/832 and 722/083 became 083/722 as illustrated in the first two examples of Terrier knives below. Not all Terriers have pattern numbers. Most do, however, have an image of an American-Staffordshire terrier's head on the back of at least one blade. Some knives have "Terrier Brand" etched on the face of the master blade with the terrier's head between the two words.

Terrier Knives Seen On Ebay

This 4 1/2" cocobola handled TERRIER take-apart slot knife sold on Ebay in May, 2007, for $378.00. There is a Robeson version of this knife featured in Knife Gallery V. The Robeson is essentially mint, but the Terrier is still an exceptional knife, even though it's only in excellent condition. I have two collector friends that own Terrier slot knives. I've only seen or know of the three that have the TERRIER name on them.

Knives marked CONTINENTAL CUTLERY CO. NEW YORK were made and distributed by Robeson from 1914 to 1920. I've never seen a pattern number on any of the Continental knives I've examined.
